POSITION DESCRIPTION
Provides support and assistance under the direction of the Learning Center Coordinator, in-house Clark County School District (CCSD) facilitator, and neuropsychologist to meet the educational needs of patients/students seen through the Learning Center. The assistant handles a wide range of support-related tasks involving patient events and the provision of resources/referrals for preschool through college-age patients. This is an hourly, non-exempt position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates under the direction of the Learning Center Coordinator and the in-house Clark County School District (CCSD) facilitator, adhering to guidelines and organizational policies.
- Tracks the number of patient/family interactions and provides this information to the center coordinator.
- Updates the roster of patients that are being assisted by the Learning Center.
- Answers phones and greets visitors of the Learning Center.
- Collects information and documents about school statuses and school concerns from patients, families, and from the medical team, which will then be addressed by the center coordinator or CCSD facilitator.
- Relays information and messages from the center coordinator and CCSD facilitator to patients and families.
- Provides information and referrals to families for appropriate resources, including social work services, scholarships, and tutoring.
- Provides academic enrichment materials, and explores websites and curriculum materials under the guidance of the center coordinator to identify additional educational materials that can be provided to patients.
- Maintains discipline and encourages acceptable behavior by patients and families while they visit the Learning Center.
- Collects surveys for the Learning Center, which may include feedback from patients and families about the services provided, as well as information about individuals who visit or use the center.
- Assists in receiving book donations, including sanitizing and organizing used books.
- Assists in decorating the Learning Center with themes based on guidance and approval from the center coordinator and CCSD facilitator
- Coordinates and participates in events for patients and families sponsored by the Learning Center, such summer camp and back-to-school fair.
- Organizes the supply closet, determines when inventory is low, and orders necessary supplies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or GED with a minimum of: One (1) year of formal post-high school course work (minimum of 24 credits); or one (1) year of work experience of volunteer work or employment with education and/or community programs, which involve parents/guardians, students, business, and/or community.
- Computer literate.
- Experience in the education field and interest in working with children.
- Ability to operate various office equipment and software including Word, Excel, Power Point and to learn and utilize all proprietary software programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, with colleagues and/or management at varying levels.
- Attention to detail, along with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, patients, and parents.
- Ability to work in fast paced environment.
- Frequently required to alternate between and standing.
- Frequently required to walk and handle several face-to-face and telephone contact daily.
- Frequently required to present information about the Learning Center to new hires and to touring guests.
- Occasionally required to stoop, bend, kneel, reach, and lift, carry, push, pull up to 15 pounds.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.
