This is a role that requires a multi-disciplinary team approach to solving problems and patient challenges. "That's not my job" or "someone else can do it" is not in our team vocabulary because we are here to be of support to each other. The primary goal is to bring the best patient care and experience for our area's children.
SUMMARY: Under the supervision and direction of a pharmacist, the Patient Pharmacy Technician will conduct a wide range of delegated technical support functions including clinical, office, and clerical support. Assigned responsibilities may include any functions necessary to support the provision of pharmacy products and services to patients and other staff and departments. This is a non-exempt position.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, pushing, pulling, fine hand coordination; ability to read and write; ability to understand and follow written and oral instruction and directions; ability to communicate with physicians, APN’s, families, personnel, and consultants; and must have the ability to remain calm under emergency situations and when handling multiple tasks.
Must be able to handle several face-to-face and telephone contacts daily. Must be able to provide quality customer service against regular background noise and conversation and to hear and speak clearly over the telephone.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Assists the pharmacist in the preparation, control, and dispensing of medications by receiving, stocking, recording, compounding, filling, labeling, and transporting medications.
- Assists in the retrieval, retention, and processing of information, reports, and clerical functions within the Patient Pharmacy.
- Participates in procedural aspects of pharmacy practice under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Demonstrates pharmacy technical responsibilities assigned and seeks appropriate training and feedback on routine responsibilities.
- Communicates effectively with patients/caregivers, providers, and third-party payors. Contact the appropriate parties to resolve patient pharmacy issues.
- Understands and is compliant with all state and federal laws and regulations in addition to organizational policies and procedures.
- Demonstrate efficiency in inventory management to support the financial responsibilities of the department and organization.
- Provides delivery of medications, information, and services in a professional, timely manner.
- Assists patients with prescription copay assistance programs enrollment. Attains appropriate supervision and accuracy checks by the pharmacist(s) and clearly understands when a pharmacist is required to verify tasks and activities.
- Obtain prior authorizations for physician prescription orders:
- Review accuracy and completeness of the information requested and ensure that all supporting documents are present for authorizations.
- Review authorization denials and submit appeals with supporting documentation from medical providers to seek approvals from insurance companies.
- Collaborate with other departments, as needed, to obtain authorization.
- Handle patient questions regarding prescriptions, including but not limited to, refills, transfers, and clarification.
- Handle prescription clarification requests from pharmacies/insurance/PBMs.
- Actively engages in department and organizational goals, activities, and projects.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and constantly seeks a team approach to developing and achieving best practices and processes.
- Provides detail-oriented, consistent, and flexible care.
- Maintain the strictest confidentiality of all provider information.
- Monitor department voicemail, email, and Teams messages.
- Demonstrate essential skills to organize and prioritize work in managing multiple priorities.
- Other administrative or authorization duties, as directed.
- Computer skills to include Word, Excel, Power Point and ability to learn and utilize all proprietary software programs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral with varying levels of colleagues and/or management.
- Ability to manage open projects to completion with successful follow up.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Capability to work independently within guidelines and company policies.
- Aptitude to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients and customers.
- Strong understanding of CPT and ICD-10 coding and medical terminology.
- Experience and knowledge with the insurance authorization process, managed care and other insurance plan benefits and coverage.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE
- Active Nevada State Board of Pharmacy Pharmaceutical Technician license.
- High school education or GED required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in health-related field preferred.
- At least two (2) years of administrative experience and experience in tertiary patient care setting involving interaction with a variety of medical services, contact with patients and families, and interaction with physicians.
