Grass Valley Radiation Oncology dba CureRays is a specialized radiation oncology practice that partners with medical physics, diagnostic radiology, and other healthcare professionals to optimize the use of superficial (kilovoltage energy) radiation units in cancer treatment. The Nurse Practitioner II will play a crucial role in providing advanced clinical care to patients undergoing radiation therapy. This role requires experience in working with linear accelerators and collaborating with radiation oncologists, therapists, and other professionals to optimize treatment outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, including physical exams and medical histories.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and initiate treatment plans.
- Administer prescribed treatments and procedures while ensuring adherence to protocols.
- Monitor and adjust care plans based on patient response to therapy.
Radiation Therapy Coordination:
- Assist in treatment planning and patient positioning for linear accelerator procedures.
- Work closely with radiation oncologists and therapists to monitor side effects and manage complications.
- Develop and implement personalized care plans for patients undergoing radiation therapy.
- Provide counseling and education to patients and families regarding treatment, side effects, and post-care management.
Collaboration & Leadership:
- Serve as a liaison between radiation oncology and other medical teams to ensure seamless patient care.
- Participate in ongoing education, workshops, and mentorship programs.
- Maintain compliance with institutional policies and national radiation oncology nursing guidelines.
Administrative Duties:
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation per legal and ethical standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to enhance clinical effectiveness.
- Assist with patient scheduling and care coordination to improve efficiency.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- Education: Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing (MSN/DNP) from an accredited program.
- Licensure & Certification: Active Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in California.
- National certification preferred (e.g., Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner (OCNP)).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years as a Nurse Practitioner in oncology, radiation therapy, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with linear accelerators and familiarity with radiation therapy protocols.
- Experience working in high-energy radiation treatment settings.
- Skills: Strong clinical, diagnostic, and patient management skills.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of IMRT, IGRT, and SBRT radiation therapies.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Primary work location: Outpatient radiation therapy center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, with possible rotations to affiliated oncology clinics.
- Environmental conditions: Exposure to radiation, latex, and various patient care scenarios.
- Physical demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, and reaching.
- Regular use of computers, requiring close eye work (typing, reading, writing).
- Occasional need to assist in patient transfers and positioning.
- Work schedule:
- Day shift, Monday – Friday.
- Occasional overtime and travel may be required for professional training and clinical needs.
