Description

The Pharmacy Technician (aka Fulfillment, Data Entry Technician, Lab Assistant, Compounding Lab Technician, Compounding Data Entry) is responsible for aiding and assisting Pharmacists in the practice of prescriptions entry and dispensing as ordered by practitioners. This is accomplished through various acts that are meant to maintain the pharmacy environment, maintain the pharmacy inventory, serve customers, and further the business interests of Curexa. The New Jersey Administrative Code Title 13, Chapter 39 provides the framework that guides what tasks are allowable and what tasks are not allowable for the pharmacy technician to perform. It is the responsibility of the individual to abide by these regulations.

Position Requirements

Requirements :

General (NJAC 13 : 39 6.5)

Be 18 years of age or older

Possess a high school diploma or its equivalent

Show that he or she is proficient in written and spoken English

Prior to offer of employment, a pharmacy technician must be willing to pass a criminal background check that includes fingerprinting and that ensures prior and ongoing compliance with Federal and state laws regarding Medicare (OIG and SAMe), Medicaid, and Sex Offender disclosure, along with drug test.

License

NJ Registration (Cf. NJAC 13 : 39-6.6(c).

Must be registered in good standing as a pharmacy technician by the NJ Division of Consumer Affairs Board of Pharmacy, if not :

Any person who is hired as a pharmacy technician who is not registered with the NJ Board of Pharmacy shall be designated a pharmacy technician applicant. A person may only be considered a pharmacy technician applicant one time and only for a maximum of 180 consecutive days. During the first 10 (ten) days of employment, the pharmacy technician applicant shall file an application with the Board to begin the pharmacy technician registration process. The applicant shall retain proof of filing the application until he or she receives his or her registration. If at the conclusion of the 180-day period, the pharmacy technician applicant has not completed the pharmacy technician registration process, the applicant shall cease performing pharmacy technician functions in the pharmacy

All registrants must display their large blue registration prominently at their primary place of employment and carry their wallet-size registration when working at 2 or more places of employment.

Any name changes must be submitted with certified copy along with address changes within 30 days to the Board.

Pharmacy technicians must identify themselves as a pharmacy technician and wear an identification badge with their last name, at least the first initial of their first name and their employment title.

All Pharmacy Technicians are required to have completed one of the following additional Certifications

passed the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board's Pharmacy Technician Certification Examination and have fulfilled the requirements to maintain this status; or

passed a Board-approved certification program and have fulfilled the requirements to maintain this status.

Experience

Recommended : Two years of experience in retail / hospital / compounding pharmacy.

Preferred : Formal didactic training in a Pharmacy Technician School or medical-related field.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills

Ability to organize and prioritize tasks

Basic computer skills including creation of documents, emails, instant messaging as well as an aptitude that will allow the Pharmacy Technician to effectively navigate pharmacy software for training and operations.

The ability to communicate effectively through spoken and written media in order to serve customers, interact with providers / practitioners, and cooperate with team members.

Knowledge

Read and decipher pharmacy notation (Sig codes)

Understand measurements in standard, metric, and apothecary systems

Perform pharmacy math including roman numerals, arithmetic, basic algebra, conversions, ratios, proportions, and percentages.

Abilities

Body movements consist of walking, turning the head and torso, reaching, grasping, bending, and flexing the arms, legs, wrists, and fingers.

Standing and / or sitting for the majority of the shift. The ability to unload and stock shelves.

Lifting up to 25 lbs. for short distances / periods of time.
