The Role


We are looking for a detail orientated and collaborative individual to work on our people team as a Benefits Specialist. In this role, you will report to the Director, Compensation and Benefits and be responsible for administering the company’s employee benefits and retirement programs.


Key Result Areas


  • Administer Curi’s benefits programs according to plan provisions, contracts, and policies, to include health and wellness plans, life and disability, voluntary benefits, and retirement plans.
  • Conduct new hire benefits orientations and participate in annual open enrollment process.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all benefits enrollments by performing quality checks of benefits-related data in the HRIS and reconciling carrier eligibility records.
  • Process new hires, qualified life event changes and terminations and ensure carriers and third-party administrators are updated with all eligibility and enrollment data.
  • Assist with the preparation of reports to comply with audits, federal, state and local regulations and reporting and other ad hoc reports as requested.
  • Participate in workers comp audit and annual renewals.
  • Reconciliation and processing of benefits-related invoicing, including resolving billing discrepancies; and periodically auditing each of these areas for completeness and accuracy.
  • Communicate and coordinate a variety of benefits matters, including consulting with and advising employees on eligibility and other benefits matters; working with benefits providers to resolve claims issues; ensuring the comprehensiveness of payroll information/changes and collaborating with the Payroll Specialist to ensure benefit deduction accuracy; and responding to employee inquiries on matters related to company policies, programs, and procedures.
  • Managing employee leaves of absence with leave administrator
  • Perform other related duties or projects, as assigned.


Key Skills


  • Extensive knowledge of employee benefits and applicable federal and state laws.
  • Excellent customer service skills as well as organizational, time management, communication (verbal and written), interpersonal and follow-up skills.
  • Proficiency in HRIS navigation (ADP Workforce Now, preferred) demonstrated ability to adapt to new technology, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and respectful of sensitive information and issues.
  • Problem-solving skills – gathers and analyzes information skillfully.
  • Teamwork – willing and eager to help others and share knowledge and skills.
  • Attendance/Punctuality – regular and predictable attendance.
  • Dependability – follows instructions, responds to management direction. Willing to commit additional hours when necessary to reach the company’s objectives.
  • Initiative – takes independent actions and reasonable risks toward issue resolution, escalating to leader when needed.


Key Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, business or related field preferred.
  • 5 years HR/Employee Benefits experience
  • Working knowledge of federal and state labor and employment laws and regulations related to FMLA, ADA, WC, ACA, ERISA, Sec. 125, COBRA, etc.
