SUMMARY:
The Director of Brand and Trade Marketing is responsible for providing expertise and leadership to define and implement marketing strategies for our full line of products as well as brand campaigns that speak directly to existing and curious cannabis consumers. The Director will collaborate closely with the Sales team to ensure that marketing initiatives support the company’s revenue growth and market-share targets while communicating the core value of the brand and corporate mission. The Director will also be responsible for leading all Trade Marketing activities across Maryland, Missouri and our licensing partners in other states. The director will oversee a team of full-time and part time field marketing associates in multiple states to ensure flawless execution of all popup activities, in-dispensary merchandising and event support.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CPG marketing with experience in regulated industries, preferably cannabis. This role requires a strategic thinker who can navigate the unique compliance challenges of the cannabis space while building compelling brand and product narratives and effective trade marketing programs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Partner with Marketing VP to develop and execute comprehensive marketing strategies that drive customer preference for Curio Wellness and Far & Dotter brands
- Assure all sales goals are met through clear and actionable omnichannel communications
- Lead brand and product positioning and messaging across all retail and wholesale channels
- Manage marketing budget and analyze ROI on all initiatives
- Collaborate with the Sales, Product Development, Cultivation and Manufacturing, teams to understand product launch schedules and develop marketing strategies to support
- Collaborate with Advertising and Media agency partners to develop executions that meet or exceed all sales and brand awareness goals.
- Design and implement impactful trade marketing programs to drive product adoption and sell-through at dispensaries and retail partners
- Develop retail merchandising strategies, point-of-sale materials and budtender education programs
- Create and manage promotional calendars, including seasonal campaigns and product launches
- Build strong relationships with key dispensary partners and develop and implement co-marketing campaigns
- Ensure all trade marketing materials comply with state and local regulations
- Use data and reports to make evidence-based decisions
- Regularly produce and present plans and strategies and results to senior leadership
- Stay up to date on latest technologies and marketing best practices
- Operates with a high level of professionalism and integrity, including dealing with confidential information
Must understand and comply with the rules, regulations, policies, and procedures of Curio Wellness
- 7 years of progressive marketing experience with at least 3 years in a senior role
- Customer-centric mindset with strong understanding of consumer segments
- Proven track record in both brand development and trade marketing execution
- Experience marketing regulated products (cannabis strongly preferred but will consider experience in alcohol, tobacco, or pharmaceuticals)
- Strong understanding of cannabis industry regulations as they pertain to marketing
- Excellent project management skills with ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously
- Data-driven approach to measuring marketing effectiveness
- Outstanding leadership abilities with experience managing and developing teams
- Superior communication and presentation skills
- Experience with MS Office, Canva and Adobe tools
- Experience with CRM tools like Salesforce, Alpine and Klavio
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business or related field.
- MBA or advanced degree preferred but not required.
- Fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment in rapidly growing industry
- Hybrid work model with a minimum of 3 days a week in-office required
- 20-30% travel required for market visits
