About the RoleThe Sr. Director, Business Development will drive the strategic growth initiatives for Currax's commercial business by structuring, negotiating and executing transactions to expand our drug portfolio, maximize the value of existing assets and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders. Transaction types include in/out licensing and M&A activities, co-development / co-promotion, collaboration, and option deals, as well as divestiture and carve-outs. This role will support those efforts through development of analytical assessments, financial evaluation and market research techniques to determine opportunity viability and success. This role will report to the President and CEO and will collaborate with cross functional team leadership.
About the Role- Strategic Planning - Lead the formulation and implementation of global business development strategy to expand portfolio, market reach and long-range planning. Coordinate strategy across all functions that impact business development efforts including, Finance, Sales, Marketing, Medical, Tech Operations, and Legal.
- Opportunity Identification - Seek out, investigate and assess outside opportunities for the organization for possible joint ventures and partnerships. Identify potential licensing and acquisition opportunities for commercialization in the U.S.
- Deal Execution - Oversee the full cycle of business development transactions including opportunity sourcing, due diligence, financial modeling, collaboration with Legal to secure both internal and partner alignment on all key terms from initial discussions of economics through contract execution.
- Project Management - Create project objectives and manage strict timelines to ensure the success of the project. Track and report on business development activities, pipeline status, and contract wins, providing regular updates to the President/CEO.
- Market Intelligence - Drive deep analysis of global drug market trends and activities to identify and capitalize on growth opportunities, as well as monitor the competitive landscape.
- Stakeholder Partnerships - Build and forge strong relationships with internal and external key stakeholders to foster collaboration and partnership opportunities. Serve as the company's ambassador when attending meetings, conferences and industry events.
- Communication - Deliver compelling business cases, strategic recommendations and clear communications to leadership and cross functional teams.
- Bachelor's Degree is required, advanced degree or MBA desirable
- 10-15 years of progressive corporate Business Development experience; 7 years in a life science company
- Deal sheet required demonstrating success in deal negotiations, licensing and acquisition or M&A activities.
- Excellent planning, organization, and project management skills are required.
- Must work with a high level of intensity and be willing to travel 25-30% of time
- Strong grasp of the fundamentals of pharmaceutical drug discovery, development, and commercialization.
- Clear understanding of financial analysis and corporate finance from critical reading of financial statements and annual reports to generation and validation of forecast and valuation models.
- Strategic and critical thinker, with ability to identify and pressure-test key sensitivities in business cases and diligence team findings.
- Practical drive for results, with ability to identify and achieve the right level of granularity to balance speed of execution and facilitate optimal decision-making by executive management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including experience leading cross-functional teams and successfully interacting with executive-level management.
