Role Summary: The purpose of this role is to perform precise, timely, and organized estimates. This shall include evaluating potential bid opportunities, oversee the creation of bid opportunities, approve proposal documents, negotiate prebid pricing with material vendors and subcontractors, and manage bid review.
Key Responsibilities:
· Ensure bid selection criteria are met and conduct thorough takeoff and scope reviews to prevent scope gaps.
· Accurately determine project costs, using both direct and indirect cost protocols.
· Maintain the minimum backlog requirement.
· Develop the estimating department by establishing clear role definitions, fostering specialization, and ensuring proper talent development.
· Enhance communication and leadership skills through executive coaching and leadership courses.
· Establish estimating budgets for each project, ensuring proper allocation of estimating resources.
· Maintain a man-loaded estimating schedule and coordinate meetings to align resources with the backlog demands.
· Develop and implement protocols for regular material pricing updates, monitoring fluctuations and communicating changes to estimators.
· Review and revise assemblies and templates to improve estimator productivity.
· Ensure adherence to the defined estimating process, including bid selection, scope review, bid closing, and turnover meetings.
· Oversee the management of bid books (electronic and hard copy) and estimating budgets.
· Facilitate coordination between estimating and other internal departments (e.g., operations) to define and execute complete scopes of work.
Required Skills and Competencies:
· Candidate must have at least 5-10 years of electrical estimating experience
· Experience with Accubid estimating software (or similar estimating software)
· Proficient in Bluebeam, Microsoft Word, and Excel
· Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in both verbal and written communication
· Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
· Attention to detail in multiple tasks
· Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
· Working knowledge of electrical installations
· In-depth knowledge of NEC/NFPA codes
