Current is seeking a Systems Engineer to join our progressive and dynamic fast-paced enterprise and device controls automation team. These are exciting times - our industry and user expectations are changing and so are we! We are developing the next generation of world class Internet of Things (IoT) connected lighting controls platform. This is a hands-on systems engineer role that will directly contribute to the evaluation of technologies across the whole IoT stack, design, architecture and development of our cutting-edge cloud-connected IoT products and applications. You will be part of our fast-growing innovative technology design center in Round Rock, TX, a hi-tech hub north of Austin.
We are looking for a talented and creative problem solver. You will be involved in the complete software development life cycle, seeing your work evolve from epics and user stories into a finished product in a hybrid agile environment. This will require a high degree of collaboration between highly talented, cross-functional and geographically dispersed development teams. You will work closely with industry-best product owners, UX designers and other development team members to understand the business needs, propose, architect and develop end-to-end solutions.
Essential Functions:
- Analyze and assist in defining system functional requirements
- Create detailed designs and develop solutions that meets system performance and functional requirements
- Design state engines, define system states and state flows to manage system behavior and ensure proper functionality
- Define interfaces and ensure system components work together seamlessly
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system designs, state engines, algorithms, procedures, and configurations
- Evaluate and propose device technology and system architecture platforms
- Architect, design and develop high-performing and reliable software components and applications with technologies including C, C and python
- Work and collaborate with other software, firmware and hardware design team members to develop innovative products and applications
- Research, assess and maintain new technology roadmap necessary for future enhancements of products
- Protect intellectual property through patent disclosures and applications
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University
- 5 years or more experience in requirement analysis and system design
- 5 years or more experience in design and development with embedded applications
- 5 years or more experience of working with real-time systems with or without an RTOS
- 5 years or more experience of working with various communication protocols and topologies, including Ethernet, I2C, RS232, RS485, SPI
- 5 years or more hands on experience in one or more of programming languages like C, C
- 5 years or more hands on experience in one or more scripting languages like python, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline
- Experience with wireless networks including Zigbee, Thread and Bluetooth Mesh
- Experience with communication protocols like HTTP, MQTT, AMQP, CoAP, LWM2M, etc.
- Experience with serial and IP communication
- Experience in secured coding practices including SSL, TLS, etc.
- Knowledge of cybersecurity requirements and experience with vulnerability and penetration testing
- Experience working with geographically dispersed teams
- Sound understanding of Agile development processes
Position Criteria
- Expert knowledge of best-practice software engineering methodologies, processes and technologies, with a passion for programming
- Demonstrated knowledge of object-oriented programming and design principles
- Expert ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills to solve complex design and coding challenges
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and to follow directions
Compensation
The position has a compensation package inclusive of base, bonus (if eligible), benefits, 401k contribution, time off, recognition awards and more. This salary range is $111,000-$139,000.
