School Counselor
Location: Currituck County High School
Reports To: Principal and/or Director of Student Services
Job Type: Full-Time, 12 Month
Start Date: May 1, 2025
Job Description:
Currituck County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor who demonstrates leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to support student success. The ideal candidate will provide proactive services and respond to identified student needs by implementing a comprehensive school counseling program. This program will focus on fostering academic, career, and personal/social development, ensuring that all students have the support they need to thrive.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement programs to support student well-being and mental health.
- Provide individual and group counseling to students to address academic, career, and personal/social development.
- Assist students in course selection, college planning, and career exploration.
- Identify barriers to learning, including crisis intervention when needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and parents to support student success.
- Consult and collaborate with parents/guardians, teachers, administrators, and other educational/community resources regarding students with identified needs.
- Monitor student academic performance, behavior, and attendance and facilitate appropriate interventions.
- Facilitate referrals to outside support when necessary.
- Implement an effective referral process and follow up.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
- Maintain accurate records and adhere to ethical and legal counseling standards.
- Collect and analyze data to guide program decisions.
- Share results of comprehensive school counseling data with relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field.
- North Carolina Professional Educator’s License in School Counseling.
- Experience working with high school students is preferred.
- Strong interpersonal, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
