JOB TITLE: Transportation Specialist
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
START DATE: Immediate
JOB GOAL: To optimally design school bus routes and to analyze the impact on student composition and transportation in changing of school attendance lines; to assist administrators in analyzing various redistricting and bus routing alternatives. Under general supervision, assists the Transportation Director in maintaining the currency and accuracy of the TIMS student database. Creates bus runs/routes. Performs TIMS computer maintenance and updates. Responsible for maintaining activity trips in Trip Direct. Maintaining records of all CDL drivers.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow all rules, policies, and procedures of Currituck County Schools, along with regulations pertaining to the Transportation Department.
- Attend training sessions to learn the operation of all TIMS software modules.
- Quality controls the assignment of all transported students to bus stops to ensure students are authorized to ride buses, an essential action to ensure student coverage under North Carolina state tort liability, especially in the event of student injury in a school bus accident.
- Review all new roads and subdivisions from County Planning; provide cartographic information.
- Gather student data from each school on a continuing basis.
- Gather information on all bus routes including stop locations, assigned students, headcounts at bus stops, and bus times.
- Provide student maps, student reports, and bus route maps to principals, bus drivers, and transportation and central office personnel as needed.
- Work with central office administrators in analyzing alternative strategies, redistricting and bus routing. Utilize redistricting software to provide information to the school board and central office administrators.
- Set up and maintain a GPS monitoring system to make route and driving time more efficient.
- Responsible for TD-2, TD-2R, and TD TIMS annual report and State reports.
- Schedule substitute drivers. Drive school buses in situations when a substitute driver cannot be scheduled.
- Create positive relationships with local school administration and parents of children who use the transportation system.
- Maintain current TIMS data to adhere to and comply with all guidelines and policies of the state and local Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction for use in preparing required forms and data analysis.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as requested by the Director.

- Possesses strong computer skills, including all aspects of the Microsoft Office Professional Software, Google Suite, and TIMS routing program.
