The Curry College Public Safety Department is tasked with providing a safe and secure environment for our community members to live, learn, and work. Our department adopts a hybrid model with fully sworn and certified Campus Police Officers that work in conjunction with non-sworn civilian Public Safety Officers. Together we operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
Essential Functions:
The Deputy Chief serves as second in command of the Curry College Public Safety Department and is tasked with oversight and management of all sworn personnel within the Department. The Deputy Chief will be expected to perform highly responsible administrative and supervisory work in planning, organizing, and directing the Patrol Division of the Department. The Deputy Chief will promote a safe and secure educational and work environment for students, faculty, staff and visitors by assisting the Chief with managing, overseeing and supervising the Department.
- Oversee the daily operations of the Department which may consist of managing schedules, developing proactive patrol tactics, encouraging community engagement, reviewing incident reports, and collaborating with multiple campus partners.
- When necessary and with the approval of the Chief, develop new policies and procedures, edit and revise current policies and procedures, and implement said policies and procedures. Assist the Chief with ongoing professionalization of the department and maintaining a specific set of standards for all personnel to adhere to.
- Manage all departmental compliance with the Massachusetts Peace Officer Standards and Training Commission to ensure that personnel remain certified law enforcement officers in the Commonwealth. Manage all associated training in accordance with POST and the MPTC to ensure that personnel meet their required obligations.
- Assist the Chief with various long-term planning projects that will include both the operating and capital, the ongoing recruitment and retention of personnel, and the regular maintaining of the department fleet. Additional long-term planning will include obtaining accreditation at the state and national level.
- Assists the Chief with data collection and preparation of the Annual Safety and Security Report and processing of all incidents related to the Jeanne Clery Act.
- Conducts all internal affairs investigations of sworn personnel and makes recommendations to the Chief.
- Ensures that all investigations by the Department are thoroughly investigated, accurate, and conducted in a timely manner. Provides all documentation to other internal campus partners as well as external agencies.
- Operate specialized law enforcement equipment including specialized police vehicles, radios, and video systems.

Additional Functions:
In addition to the functions outlined above, the Deputy Chief may, at times, be subject to the following.
- Regularly attend meetings and sit on various boards comprised of campus partners.
- Regularly prepare incident and accident reports for supervisory review and possible dissemination.
- Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Curry College Public Safety Department is seeking candidates with extensive law enforcement experience and significant supervisory and management experience.
- The candidate must possess a High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- The candidate must have a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field from an accredited institution.
- The candidate must be at least 21 years of age.
- The candidate must have an active Massachusetts Driver's License.
- The candidate must be eligible for appointment as Special State Police Officer in accordance with M.G.L. ch.22 s. 63 and able to maintain their eligibility for the duration of their employment.
- The candidate must be eligible for appointment as a Norfolk County Deputy Sheriff and maintain their eligibility for the duration of their employment.
- The candidate must be eligible for the Massachusetts Peace Officers Standards and Training Certification (POSTC) and remain a Certified Officer for the duration of their employment.
- The candidate must have completed an MPTC Recruit Officer Course from an MPTC approved or authorized academy or obtain a permanent exemption from the MPTC.
- The candidate must have at least 10 years of progressive law enforcement experience with a minimum of 5 years in a Command Level position (Captain or higher).
- The candidate will be required to pass a comprehensive background investigation, a pre-employment psychological examination, and a pre-employment medical exam.
Preferred Qualifications:
- The candidate would ideally have a Master's Degree in Criminal Justice or related field..
- The candidate would be a graduate of an advanced Police Executive Development Program such as the FBI LEEDA Trilogy Series, FBI National Academy (NA), Police Executive Research Forum Senior Management Institute for Police (PERF SMIP), Southern Police Institute (SPI), or equivalent.
- The candidate would have a strong understanding of the Jeanne Clery Act reporting and compliance.
- The candidate would have obtained their POST Certification by having completed a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Basic Recruit Officer Academy and/or obtained a permanent exemption from the Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) that has been approved and accepted by the Massachusetts State Police.
- The candidate would have active certifications in CPR, First Aid, AED, and Stop the Bleed.
- The candidate would have campus law enforcement experience.
- The candidate would have knowledge of CAD and report writing operating systems.
- The candidate would have knowledge of police procedures and practices, the laws of arrest and criminal procedures.
- The candidate would have a strong ability to understand the dynamics and culture of working at an institution of higher learning.
Salary Range:
$85,000 to $90,000 annually
