Job title : Coordinator of Residence Life and Off-Campus Housing

Status : Full-time; Permanent; Exempt

Reporting to the Senior Associate Dean of Student Services, the Coordinator of Residence Life and Off-Campus Housing provides coordination and leadership for residential programs and services that support students living in Lenfest Hall and off-campus. The Office of Residence Life provides a broad range of student development functions to create safe, supportive, and inclusive living environments that engage students in furthering their success, personal growth, leadership development, and commitment to social responsibility and community engagement.

This position is responsible for residential student conduct, the selection, ongoing training, and assessment of resident coordinators (RCs) in conjunction with the Senior Associate Dean of Student Services, resident programming, budget oversight, and the establishment of structures, policies, and basic operations for the department. Curtis acknowledges the unique set of responsibilities and time commitment for this position. The position requires a living presence in Lenfest Hall and must serve as part of the on-call staff for emergencies and crisis response.

Primary Responsibilities :

  • Provide coordination and direction for the Office of Residence Life
  • Respond to crisis and critical incidents as needed; serve on a 24 / 7 crisis response team
  • Promote cultural awareness and engage a diverse student body
  • Counsel students as needed and mediate student issues and conflicts
  • Develop, implement, and execute programs and policies which encourage a safe, healthy, and positive student experience
  • Oversee departmental budget and monitor spending for all staff members in residence life
  • Maintain residence life website and off-campus housing site
  • Develop, maintain, and communicate policies for the office of residence life; update residence life handbook as needed
  • Monitor current trends in residence life to determine potential application or impact to residence life and Curtis
  • Participates in and support campus-wide activities, programs, and traditions at Curtis
  • Serve as Campus Security Authority in compliance with the Jean Clery Act and a mandatory reporter for Title IX
  • Manage residential student behavior through adjudicating residence life policy violations, issue sanctions as needed in coordination with Senior Associate Dean of Student Services
  • Maintain residence life records and files

Supervise Resident Coordinators (RCs) :

  • Supervise Resident Coordinators (RCs), hire, onboard, train, and evaluate performance
  • Conduct weekly RC meetings
  • Organize resident coordinator on-call duty schedule
  • Support and approve RC programming, encouraging events and activities that contribute to the social, academic and personal development of the student body in coordination with the Office of Student Life
  • Lenfest Hall Operations :

  • Manage and facilitate all residential / housing operations, including :
  • Opening and closing / move-in and move-out

    Occupancy verification

    Key distribution

    Housing / room assignments, room changes

    Guest accommodations

    Management of the 5th Floor Lounge

    Health & safety inspections

    Damage billing

    Student mail

  • Work in conjunction with facilities, security, housekeeping and dining regarding residential concerns, safety, repairs, dining concerns and issues, cleaning of residential areas, residential space improvements, and follow up on work orders and maintenance issues
  • Off-Campus Housing Operations :

  • Meet with realtors and property managers to review and secure locations for students
  • Coordinate and support transition with students and parents between on-campus and off-campus housing
  • Assist parents and students under 17 to identify and secure off-campus housing as needed
  • Maintain / update off-campus housing website
  • Coordinate housing and support for Summer Programs
  • Additional Responsibilities :

  • Serve on institutional committees, as assigned
  • Other duties as assigned

    Education / Experience :

  • A minimum of two years of experience in a college or university residence life setting
  • Knowledge of and experience with crisis management, emergency response, conduct and student mediation
  • Experience working with, advising, and supporting diverse student populations
  • Background in or deep understanding of the performing arts preferred

  • This is an onsite position in Philadelphia, PA
  • Position is residential and housing on campus is provided
  • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for any employer at the time of hire.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is a requirement for all positions at the Curtis Institute of Music and all new hires are expected to be fully vaccinated before beginning work.
  • The final candidate will be required to successfully pass a background check and obtain PA Act 153 clearances.
  • Compensation and Benefits :

  • Gross annual salary for this position is $50,000 - 55,000, commensurate with experience
  • On-campus housing is provided with this position
