What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Technician (Training Provided) position at Curtiss-Wright Corporation?
The Matallurgical Prep Technician will complete hands-on preparation of samples for metallographic examination and mechanical properties testing. Activities include sawing, mounting, grinding, and polishing of samples for follow up evaluation using a variety of analytical tools and instruments.
Location: Louisville, KY
Hours: Day Shift
Your Challenge:
- Operate sectioning, mounting and polishing equipment to prepare the metallographic samples.
- Conduct examinations of metals and alloys to determine their crystal structure, porosity, homogeneity and other characteristics.
- Tests samples in various ways which may include using pressure devices, and hot-acid baths to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness or other properties of the metal.
- Evaluate results to customer specifications and industry standards. Generate reports and documentation based on evaluations.
Your Expertise:
- High School or Equivalent required.
- Comfortable utilizing power tools, hand tools, and various machinery.
- Ability/desire to conduct hands-on work in a laboratory setting.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude through 1 years of previous hands on work experience in any capacity.
- Quality focused with an eye for detail.
- Experience with metallographic sample preparation and analysis (sawing, mounting, grinding, polishing, microscopy) preferred but not required.
