Position Summary:
Custer County Treasurer's Office is now accepting application for an Office Clerk I. The Office Clerk I position performs general administrative duties, interacts with and assists citizens of the County and general public, and ensures that aspects of the Treasurer’s Office are running smoothly. Custer County will accept applications until the position is filled.
Essential Job Functions:
- Provide clerical support for the Treasurer’s Office; process a variety of documentation associated with department operations within designated timeframes and per established procedures; receive and respond to inquiries; compose and type correspondence; process outgoing mail.
- Answer incoming phone calls; provide information and assistance; record/relay messages or direct calls to appropriate personnel; initiate and return calls as necessary.
- Perform customer service functions; provide assistance and information related to taxes, accounts, services, fees, payments, procedures, documentation, or other issues; research account problems and ensure payments are credited to proper accounts; respond to routine questions and initiate problem resolution as needed.
- Receive money in payment of personal property taxes, real estate taxes, business licenses, building permits, County publications, maps, or other fees/services; calculate taxes, penalties, and interest; process and record transactions; balance daily receipts with monies collected; endorse checks and prepare revenues for deposit; record overpayment refunds and mail refund checks with correspondence.
- Process monies received from other County departments; compare payments with statements and identify discrepancies.
- Issue animal license tags and commercial business licenses; collect payments and issue receipts; maintain records for animal tags; maintain records for false alarms and rollback taxes; prepare daily balancing reports.
- Prepare tax bills for mailing; assist in processing address changes and posting credits to real estate tax bills; prepare delinquent real estate tax bills for mailings. Process letters for insufficient payment on accounts.
- All other duties as assigned.
Preferred Talents:
- Knowledge of various types of programs used in data entry operation.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment.
- Ability to make simple arithmetic calculations rapidly and accurately.
- Strong organizational, time-management and multitasking skills.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous office experience preferred.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
This position must be able to sit for long periods of time, operate a computer, office equipment, and occasionally lift up to 30lbs for up to 25ft.
Working Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to indoor conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work may be required to be performed outdoors and in inclement weather and may be noisy, hot, humid, wet, cold, snow and/or dusty. This job may require the employee to physically access uneven terrain and to maneuver unfinished sites on foot to perform inspections.
