The Custer County Director of Equalization is seeking a Non-Certified Appraiser to support the Custer County Appraiser in conducting field inspections of properties and gathering relevant listing data. This full-time position offers an hourly wage of $17.88 (non-certified) and requires 40 hours of work per week, Monday through Friday from 8 : 00 AM to 5 : 00 PM. The position is based at the Custer County Courthouse in Custer, SD, with travel required within Custer County.
Those in the position will be responsible for gathering property cards for daily assignments, preparing listing forms and necessary paperwork for inspections, and ensuring all equipment is organized and ready for use. The role includes tracking vehicle maintenance, ensuring the vehicle is fueled, and performing fieldwork to measure and document the exterior of properties, including buildings and any improvements. This will involve creating hand-drawn plot plans and sketches with accurate measurements of the properties. The assistant will also enter property information and listing details into the CAMA system, download and label photos, and maintain positive relationships with property owners. A key aspect of the role is maintaining discretion and respecting the privacy of property owners while performing inspections.
Fieldwork may require walking on uneven terrain, and the assistant must be able to sit, walk, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, and lift up to 20 lbs unassisted. Manual dexterity is also required for tasks such as typing, writing, using a calculator, and handling a tape measure. A valid driver’s license is required for this role, along with the ability to sketch properties and accurately enter data into the computer system.
