POSITION: Custodian
JOB GOAL: The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within the building. This position involves performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks, supporting custodial operations, and ensuring the facilities are well-kept. This position reports to the Foreman, Head Custodian, and Custodial Supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Basic knowledge of industrial cleaning methods and safety practices.
- Familiarity with custodial equipment and supplies.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Good interpersonal skills for maintaining positive relationships with staff and students.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, carry, push, pull, climb, and balance.
- Ability to frequently walk, bend, kneel, and use fine motor skills for detailed cleaning.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, with some exposure to noise and equipment hazards.
REPORTS TO: Foreman, Head Custodian, and Custodial Supervisor
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Daily Cleaning Tasks:
- Clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and remove trash from assigned areas.
- Maintain restrooms in a sanitary condition and restock supplies as needed.
- Equipment and Systems Maintenance:
- Assist in operating and maintaining HVAC, life safety, and lighting systems.
- Report any maintenance issues to the Head Custodian.
- Help with minor repairs and routine maintenance on equipment and furniture.
- Building Security and Maintenance:
- Ensure the security of the building by locking and unlocking doors as assigned.
- Assist with snow removal and setup/takedown for school activities as required.
- Support and Collaboration:
- Work collaboratively with the custodial team to ensure cleanliness and efficiency.
- Participate in training sessions to enhance knowledge of cleaning methods and safety protocols.
- Emergency Response:
- Provide emergency cleanup services as needed.
- Be available to respond to custodial needs during assigned shifts.
Work Environment:
- The role involves both indoor and outdoor work, with responsibilities during regular school hours and possibly during events.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
- Promote a positive image of the District.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Custodian or Supervisor.
