JOB TITLE: Tube Mill Operator – Tube Mill
Reports to: Tube Mill Production Manager / Mill Supervisor
I. JOB PURPOSE AND SUMMARY
The Mill Crane Operator will report directly to the Mill Supervisor. This role is instrumental in ensuring the efficient and safe operation of our crane systems, contributing to uptime, product quality, and overall mill performance.
II. SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
· Directs the Mill Crew
· Has overall responsibity for tube (profile, weld quality, OD scarf condition, order fulfillment)
· Records production data as needed (order, coil, times, speeds, pieces, bundles)
· Collects coil and bundle tags to turn in at the end of the shift
· Reviews Mill Schedule with crew
· Checks offline rafts for next setup
· Sets up mill at rebuild and changeover
· Leads crew during changeover
· Adjusts mill setup during operation
· Operates mill to meet schedule
· Alerts maintenance of any difficulties with machinery
· Works closely with both Mill Crane Operator, Cut-Off Operator, End Welder, and the multi-craft Technician to monitor the entirety of the production process.
· Alerts Mill Operator of any difficulties with machinery
· Have a full working understanding and knowledge of all positions as to be able to direct as needed.
· Operate overhead and Dual Trolley cranes to support tube mill operations.
· Follow verbal and/or written instructions and comply with safety protocols and PPE requirements.
· Assist maintenance personnel with equipment repairs.
· Support other operators during breakdowns, bottlenecks, and scheduled downtime.
· Report any irregularities or malfunctions to supervisors or maintenance staff.
· Maintain a clean and safe work area and equipment.
· Train others on Tube Mill Operator responsibilities as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
· Direct, hands-on experience operating and managing tube mills and related equipment.
· Proven experience, with the ability to act proactively in achieving performance goals.
· Strong technical knowledge of tube mill processes, equipment, and materials.
· Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
· Excellent leadership and teamwork ability to lead and train others.
· Solid understanding of safety regulations and best practices in a manufacturing environment.
· Proficiency in computerized systems for production planning, inventory management, and
quality control.
· Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders.
IV. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· The physical demands include the ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.), stand for extended periods, bend, kneel, and work in various environmental conditions.
· Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements include enhanced visibility work uniforms, eye protection, head protection, fall arrest harness, hearing protection, foot protection, respiratory protection, welding helmet, welding attire, and various types of face shields.
· Operation of various machinery and equipment, including hand tools, overhead cranes, forklifts, heavy machinery, welding, and cutting equipment.
· Must be able to stand and walk for up to 8-10 hours per day or for extended periods to cover shift needs.
· Flexibility to bend, twist, stoop, sit, kneel, crawl, push, and pull, with the capability to reach in all directions.
V. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Associate’s Degree, trade or technical school diploma, and/or journeyman’s card in a related trade.
· 5 years of mechanical/electrical experience, preferably in metal rolling mill and induction heating systems.
VI. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
· Relocation assistance may be available for out-of-state candidates.
