CVP is seeking a Phlebotomist Team Lead to join our team in providing our nation's veterans with high-quality phlebotomy services at the Wm. Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC. This is an excellent opportunity to serve veterans while working in a supportive healthcare environment.
Location: 6439 Garners Ferry Rd, Columbia, SC 29209.
- Oversee daily phlebotomy operations, ensuring efficient workflow and compliance with established protocols
- Serve as a technical resource for other phlebotomists, providing guidance on complex draws and procedures
- Collect blood samples using the vacutainer blood collection system or syringe with needle/butterfly when necessary, following established procedures for correctly identifying patients and collecting appropriate specimens for requested tests
- Train and mentor new phlebotomy staff on proper techniques and facility procedures
- Monitor quality control measures and address any issues promptly
- Coordinate with laboratory management to ensure adequate staffing and coverage
- Ensure compliance with all safety and infection control procedures
- Assist in maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment
- Process and package specimens for transport to parent facility or local contractor according to receiving facility instructions
- Maintain accurate documentation and records of all phlebotomy activities
- Facilitate communication between phlebotomy staff and other departments
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and staff meetings
- Provide patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, including review of paperwork and offering cordial guidance and assistance
- Perform proper veni-puncture, finger stick procedures, and other CLIA 88 waived tests using appropriate techniques
- Ability to successfully undergo a government sponsored background investigation (US Citizenship Required)
- Minimum of 3 years of experience as a phlebotomist, with at least 1 year in a leadership or supervisory role
- National or state recognized certification as a phlebotomist
- References from lab supervisors, clinical teachers, or physicians attesting to clinical skills (must include name, title, phone number, email)
- Healthcare Worker Certificate with statement from healthcare worker's physician or physical examination report (within 60 days prior to contract start) indicating freedom from mental or physical impairments
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and excellent communication skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety protocols, and quality control measures
- Experience with electronic medical record systems
- Ability to train and mentor staff effectively
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience in a VA or military healthcare setting preferred
Clinic Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00- 4:30 PM, Saturday, 8:00-2:30 PM
Various shifts including weekends
