Postgraduate Gap Year Program - Medical Assistant

Program Overview

Each year, CutisCo Dermatology offers an enriching Gap Year Program for motivated pre-med and pre-PA/NP students seeking hands-on clinical experience. This unique opportunity allows participants to assist in surgeries, scribe alongside board-certified dermatologists and physician assistants, and develop essential clinical skills. With dedicated mentorship and personalized guidance, students gain invaluable insights into the medical field, preparing them for successful careers in healthcare.

Program Highlights

• Paid Position – Full-time role with responsibilities equivalent to a Medical Assistant.
• Program Duration – July 1 – June 30 (earlier if desired)
• Structured Mentorship – Meet with Dr. Anh Pham (Program Director) at the start of the program to develop a personalized plan, with quarterly check-ins to track progress.
• Research & Publication – Prepare and submit a medical case report or brief study to a peer-reviewed journal.
• Comprehensive Training – Participate in didactic lectures and hands-on procedural training, including suturing and other essential skills.
• Exclusive Learning Resources – Access specialized dermatology education materials.
• Community Engagement – Support and contribute to CutisCo-led outreach initiatives.

The Ideal Candidate

• Recent graduate with a bachelor’s degree
• Pre-med or pre-PA/NP student with a strong academic record
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Able to commit to a one-year position at CutisCo

Program Completion & Letter of Recommendation

Upon successfully completing the CutisCo Gap Year Program, graduates will receive a letter of recommendation from the program director, incorporating feedback from all physicians and PAs they worked with throughout the year.
