Our Location :

Our Seattle Fulfillment Center (SFC) is located in the heart of the Ikea Commercial District where we have 200,000 square feet of state of the art production and inventory. We maximize our facility with two shifts of production, five days per week. We enjoy a culturally diverse workforce and promote team orientated solutions to delight our customers.

The Senior Technical Designer is responsible for managing the technical design process through the Product Life Cycle, according to the company’s Product Development Process Steps Calendar, through close collaboration with the Merchandising, Design, and Production teams. Communication with mentioned groups includes all phases of development including, but not limited to; construction details, pattern review and revision, graded spec, garment fit including audits to agents and factories, garment sampling, garment fittings and advising grading revisions when necessary. The Senior Technical Designer may be asked to provide a specialists view to specific areas of expertise to include; fit, patternmaking, grades, general troubleshooting and mentoring / coaching team members as requested by the Design & Development team.

Essential Functions :

  • Product Development Leadership :

Identify best construction methods for each style and maintain established construction quality standards.

  • Incorporate all graded specs in the tech package and establish sample requests for all development styles.
  • Incorporate all critical technical design information in the Tech Packs.
  • Fit and Quality Assurance :
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate fit and pattern adjustments within a digital environment to diverse audiences, including those with limited proficiency in English.

  • Schedule and facilitate fit sessions with stakeholders and provide input and active guidance during fitting to resolve fit issues. Responsible for all spec, pattern and grade rule adjustments as needed during development.
  • Sourcing Management
  • Primary contact with NWG Sourcing Technical Designer : Create, facilitate and monitor Centric based communication and accountability structure with NWG Sourcing Technical Design team. Develop relationships and share tools collaboratively.

  • Utilize Centric PLM to capture and manage all tech pack information to ensure visibility to all stakeholders.
  • Distribute all tech packs including construction, label and hangtag identification / placement information, packaging instructions, etc. with communication of completed package to factories.
  • Maintain tracking of all developments to ensure factories / agents comply with requested sample deliveries to meet development and production calendar deadlines. Provide weekly status updates to product development stakeholders.
  • Communicate and partner with Production to evaluate styling issues or approval issues to drive to styles’ exit factory timeline and meet on-time delivery schedule.
  • Review communications to / from factories and advise on prioritization as needed.
  • Brand Elevation
  • With a keen eye for product DNA adherence and persistence for quality, ensure all developed products exceed Cutter & Buck’s product DNA

  • As a valued member of Design & Development team, engage in occasional competitive landscaping with other brands to evaluate and maintain fit for the C&B target market demographic.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

  • Knowledge of Merchandising / Design / Product Development / Production vocabulary and processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Product Life Cycle.
  • Expert level knowledge in patternmaking & grading
  • Comprehensive knowledge of apparel construction in a factory setting. When applicable, ability to recommend alternate garment construction to improve factory output, efficiency & overall quality during production.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Ability to work creatively in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skill with ESL sourcing partners
  • Ability to work well with creative and detailed projects
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, multitask, and demonstrate flexibility in a changing environment
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Education and Experience :

  • Bachelor of Arts degree in Design or a Technical Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 10 years of progressive experience in technical apparel development, engineering and / or design required
  • Advanced experience with Web-based Product Design Management systems, Centric, Gerber, Illustrator, Excel, and Outlook preferred
  • Experience with 2D and / or 3D Digital Patternmaking software preferred
  • Experience with MAC and PC systems preferred
  • Work Environment :

  • Ability to work hybrid schedule that includes equal working from home and in office setting. This position must be able to work onsite at Renton, Washington HQ / Fulfillment Center on a scheduled basis.
  • Professional office environment; business-casual dress.
  • Remote Home Office must be contained and able to work without dependent care and / or distractions during working hours.
