What are the responsibilities and job description for the DCS Specialist position at CVR Energy, Inc.?
POSITION SUMMARY
Under minimal supervision, the incumbent will engineer, develop, and assist with all computer systems required to control the refinery with the greatest possible accuracy through selection, design, procurement, installation, development, commissioning, and maintenance of the control systems.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- 2 year's technical degree in electronics, computer hardware and/or software preferred. Experience and qualifications as an instrument technician and electrician in lieu of degree may be considered
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- 5 years of demonstrated aptitude in DCS, PLC's, and instrumentation required.
- Working Automations issues to resolution, engaging other members of Group
- Demonstrated aptitude to be trained to troubleshoot and replace DCS parts, and identify root causes for incidents
- Troubleshoot wireless tank gauging signals when there are communications issues - Honeywell OneWireless transmitters
- Provide schedule flexibility for call-outs as needed
- IP protocols, fiber, servers, firewalls, Cisco switches, VM configurations
- Help troubleshoot equipment problems when communications fail
- Honeywell TDC, Experion and Safety Manager, Rockwell (Allen-Bradley) PLCs and AADvance SIS experience preferred
- Troubleshoot DCS/PLC programs and logic to assist in resolving Operations issues
- Packaged boiler controls, HMI's and other stand-alone Field Systems preferred
- Control Valves and Instrumentation - assist I&E Techs in troubleshooting field issues from perspective of Control Systems
- Operator Console Graphics - troubleshooting and modifying displays
- PI - knowledge of application, how to build tags and interfaces with DCS
- Experience in refinery operations preferred
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist and implement DCS related preventative maintenance schedules and corrective maintenance tasks
- Assist, modify and configure all control programming in the DCS and PLC
- Monitor performance of all control programming and coordinate with maintenance and operations to improve performance
- Participate in management of change activities and HAZOP's related to controls engineering and be key support person for Instrumentation Design personnel when specifying and designing new instrumentation schemes
- Assist in providing support for the Plant Control Operations
- Configuration of Operator interface displays on process control systems
- Conduct Operator training for enhanced process control reliability and efficiency
- Assist in P&ID reviews for control design
- Assist in the development of process alarm management
- As needed, prepare oral presentations and written reports
- Regularly communicate with supervisor of progress, roadblocks, and concerns
- Exposure to work near potentially volatile and combustible materials and chemicals.
