As an Underwriting Analyst, you will be primarily responsible for analyzing qualitative and quantitative factors to determine the value and performance potential of properties within a CMBS pool. The role also involves conducting site inspections and utilizing various databases and market data sources to gather information for accurate valuations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Underwrite new deals within the commercial real estate sector, primarily focusing on conduit, and agency/Freddie Mac
- Perform ongoing portfolio management loan surveillance in preparation for scheduled client reporting periods
- Present performance, assumptions and analysis of both new deals underwriting and identified surveillance findings to clients regularly
- Analyze qualitative factors such as property types, markets, and sponsors to determine the overall story and value of a specific deal
- Evaluate quantitative data, including historical financials and proforma modeling, to assess property debt and potential value
- Conduct site inspections to ensure consistency between the original lender information and the actual property condition
- Utilize internal databases, such as CAMS, to gather sponsor information and loan details
- Gather market data from sources like Costar, RCA / MSCI, Trepp, KBRA, etc. to support valuation analysis and conclusions
- Utilize Excel extensively for data analysis and financial modeling
- Network with brokers in different regions across the country to gather market data and insights
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate qualitative and quantitative factors in property valuations
- Excellent communication skills to effectively present assumptions and conclusions to clients
- Detail-oriented approach to analyze various property types, markets, and sponsors for accurate underwriting
- Proficiency in financial modeling and data analysis using Excel
- Ability to conduct site inspections and assess property conditions
- Networking skills to establish connections with brokers and gather market data
- Familiarity with industry databases and tools used in commercial real estate underwriting (Costar, RCA / MSCI, Trepp, KBRA, etc.)
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in finance with a focus in Real Estate or a related discipline
- 1-2 years of commercial real estate experience including investment analysis or valuations
The base salary range for this role is provided in accordance with local regulations, but salary represents just one component of the total compensation package. Additional elements such as bonuses, overtime, deferred cash (where applicable), benefits, perks, and company contributions to 401(k) plans-often result in total compensation significantly exceeding the base salary. Compensation is influenced by individual performance, tenure, experience, geographic location, business unit needs, company performance, and market conditions.
