OVERVIEW
The Industrial Painter/Blaster uses specific equipment to blast and paint asphalt plant equipment. The products being blasted and painted will range in size from very large pieces being moved around on transports and forklifts to smaller, individual parts that can be moved by hand. Industrial Painter/Blasters are responsible for applying paint, and similar coatings to different types of metals, and use various techniques to apply paint, including sprays, rollers, and brushes. In addition, they are responsible for operating a steel grit blasting nozzle.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Blast product prior to painting using a steel grit blasting nozzle inside a state of the fully enclosed blast booth. It is estimated that 0-25% of their time will be spent blasting.
- Paint and apply finishing coats in accordance with work orders in a fully enclosed paint booth. It is estimated that 75-100% of their time will be spent painting.
- Hang parts from the racking, wiping, and drying parts.
- Examines finished products to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Skillful operation and maintenance of paint sprayer equipment.
- Proper daily housekeeping procedures, ensuring paint booth is in top condition.
- Observes safety rules and procedures per OSHA standards.
- Proper time and record keeping on work orders.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- 5 years previous experience with industrial painting.
SKILS
- Proficient in surface preparation techniques and the use of painting and blasting equipment.
- Knowledge of paint mixing, coating application methods, and curing processes.
Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and project plans. - Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Strength and Stamina
- Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy parts, tools, and equipment (typically up to 50 – 100lbs).
- Capability to stand, walk, or work on your feet for extended periods, often 8 – 10 hours or more.
- Physical endurance to handle physically demanding tasks, such as operating sandblasting equipment in repetitive, full-body motions for extended periods.
- Manual Dexterity
- Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination to handle nozzles, tools, and other equipment precisely.
- Ability to operate sandblasting and painting machinery, adjust nozzles, and control pressure settings with accuracy.
- Steady hands to guide the equipment and direct abrasive materials and/or paint onto surfaces smoothly.
- Mobility and Flexibility
- Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, or squat for extended periods, as sandblasting and painting often requires reaching low or hard-to-access areas.
- Flexibility to climb ladders or scaffolding to access elevated areas or equipment.
- Capability to move easily through confined spaces, crawl under structures, or work in tight, awkward positions.
- Visual and Auditory Acuity
- Good vision to ensure accurate surface cleaning and painted finishes
- Ability to identify details and imperfections on surfaces, even in dusty or low-visibility environments.
- Hearing acuity to detect unusual noises or alarms from the equipment.
- Proper use of PPE to protect against dust, debris, and abrasives without impairing vision.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and varying weather conditions.
May require working at heights or in confined spaces.
