JOB TITLE: GIS Technician

ESTIMATED PAY RANGE:

$45,000 - $50,000, commensurate with experience.

Company 401K, health insurance, HSA, and paid time off offered.

Performance-based bonuses are awarded biannually, at the end of each half of the calendar year.

LOCATION:

Remote position with up to 10% travel.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The company provides professional consulting services and software solutions for urban forest management, green infrastructure planning, natural resource analysis, and related areas. We are seeking to fill a full-time, entry-level GIS Technician to join our team.

This GIS Technician should be knowledgeable, genuine, disciplined, ethical, and passionate about nature, planning, technology, and making a positive impact in communities. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, proactive, flexible, focused, work well under deadlines and pressure, and be well-written with excellent communication skills.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:

  • Collect, process, edit, and organize GIS and environmental data from various sources using ArcGIS Pro.
  • Conduct raster geoprocessing, image interpretation, and quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) for urban land use and land cover classification data.
  • Execute and validate Python scripts to ensure accuracy and consistency in GIS data analysis.
  • Utilize standard vector and raster geoprocessing tools, including union, join, clip, conversion, projection, and zonal statistics.
  • Adhere to metadata standards and best practices for data management and documentation.
  • Apply forestry and natural resource concepts to support technical reports, including narratives, tables, maps, graphics, and background research.
  • Work independently and manage tasks autonomously while ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely project completion.

Requirements

BENEFICIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • BS/BA degree in geography, computer or environmental science, forestry, or planning.
  • Interest in forestry, urban ecology, ecosystems, water/natural resources, or land use planning.
  • Knowledge of cartographic and other visual design technologies.
  • Problem-solving skills with good attention to detail and the ability to think through and execute spatial analyses from beginning to end.

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time salaried position. The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in the local time zone (Mountain Standard Time preferred), with options for flexible and alternate work schedules upon approval by management.

Additionally, maintaining a professional demeanor during virtual interactions, respecting colleagues' time zones and schedules, and ensuring a reliable internet connection and a quiet, distraction-free workspace are essential for fostering a productive remote work culture.
