Job Overview:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior AWS Cloud Engineer with 15 years of hands-on experience to join our dynamic team. As a Senior AWS Cloud Engineer, you will lead cloud infrastructure initiatives, providing technical expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing solutions using AWS cloud technologies. You will play a key role in driving cloud strategy, governance, and innovation for our enterprise-level systems and applications, collaborating closely with architects, developers, and business leaders to ensure successful cloud migrations, deployments, and ongoing optimizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cloud Architecture & Design:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective cloud solutions using AWS services.
- Architect cloud-based solutions tailored to meet business needs, ensuring compliance, security, and performance optimization.
- Provide architectural guidance and best practices for implementing solutions in AWS, ensuring high availability, scalability, and security.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive cloud infrastructure strategies, including network design, virtual private cloud (VPC), subnets, security groups, and routing.
- Cloud Migration & Optimization:
- Lead complex cloud migration initiatives, working with cross-functional teams to plan, execute, and monitor the migration of workloads to AWS.
- Identify and implement opportunities to optimize cloud infrastructure and reduce overall operational costs by leveraging AWS pricing models and cost management tools.
- Drive the adoption of serverless architectures, containers (ECS, EKS), and other modern cloud-native technologies to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
- Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC):
- Design and implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) solutions using tools such as AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, or AWS CDK to automate cloud infrastructure provisioning and management.
- Create reusable scripts and automated workflows for provisioning and managing AWS resources (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.).
- Continuously improve automation strategies and work towards eliminating manual processes and improving operational efficiency.
- Security & Compliance:
- Implement robust security protocols and practices to ensure the protection of sensitive data and workloads in the AWS cloud environment.
- Ensure compliance with industry regulations and standards such as GDPR, HIPAA, SOC2, etc., and perform regular audits and vulnerability assessments.
- Collaborate with security teams to integrate IAM (Identity and Access Management), encryption, firewalls, and other AWS security features into the cloud architecture.
- Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
- Set up comprehensive monitoring and alerting solutions for cloud infrastructure and applications using AWS CloudWatch, AWS X-Ray, and third-party tools.
- Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, downtime, and other infrastructure issues in the cloud environment.
- Establish root cause analysis processes and document solutions for future reference, minimizing downtime and service disruptions.
- Collaboration & Mentorship:
- Lead a team of cloud engineers and provide mentorship, training, and technical guidance to junior and mid-level team members.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including DevOps, developers, business stakeholders, and IT operations to ensure the success of cloud-related projects.
- Continuously improve team capabilities by sharing industry trends, best practices, and lessons learned.
- Cost Management & Budgeting:
- Work with finance and operations teams to monitor and control cloud costs, optimizing resource usage without compromising on performance.
- Leverage AWS tools like AWS Cost Explorer, Trusted Advisor, and Budgets to identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Implement cost management policies and ensure the organization adheres to budgeting constraints while meeting business needs.
- Documentation & Reporting:
- Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, workflows, and operational procedures.
- Prepare regular reports and updates on cloud infrastructure status, performance, security, and cost management for senior leadership.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field. Master's degree preferred.
- Experience: 15 years of experience in IT infrastructure, cloud engineering, and AWS, with at least 8 years of hands-on experience in architecting and managing cloud environments.
- AWS Certifications (Preferred)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional (Required)
- AWS Certified DevOps Engineer Professional (Preferred)
- AWS Certified Security Specialty (Preferred)
- AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate (Optional)
- Technical Expertise:
- Advanced knowledge of AWS services (EC2, Lambda, RDS, S3, VPC, IAM, ECS, EKS, CloudFormation, etc.).
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, CloudFormation, or AWS CDK.
- Strong experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, ECS, EKS).
- Proficiency in automation tools like Ansible, Jenkins, and CI/CD pipeline integration.
- Deep understanding of cloud security best practices, IAM roles, security groups, encryption, and access controls.
- Hands-on experience in setting up cloud monitoring and logging using AWS CloudWatch, CloudTrail, and third-party tools.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking concepts such as VPC, Route 53, Direct Connect, and Transit Gateway.
- Cloud Migration: Extensive experience in leading large-scale migrations from on-premises to AWS.
- Cost Optimization: Proven track record of optimizing AWS costs using various tools and strategies.
- Collaboration & Leadership: Experience working in cross-functional teams and mentoring junior engineers.
