Cyber-Seniors is a 501c3 organization whose mission is to bridge the digital divide and connect generations using technology. We envision a world with digital equity, where everyone has access to technology and the skills to use it.
Cyber-Seniors provides tech training for older adults using an intergenerational volunteer model. Teens and young adults are trained as digital mentors through lessons and learning activities. Senior citizens are provided with technology training and partnered with volunteer mentors, enabling them to practice what they have learnt. The results are enriched intergenerational communities that keep both older adults and young people socially connected and engaged.
Job Description:
Deliver technology training sessions to older adults at 2 locations each week, 1 in Grass Valley and 1 in Sacramento, beginning February 2025 and running to the end of 2025. Each of the sessions will require a commitment of approximately 4 hours.
Job Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities include the following:
1. Deliver technology training sessions to older adults - topics, structure, and content for each presentation will be provided.
2. Arrive 45 minutes before the start time of each presentation to ensure proper room set-up, greet volunteers and register participants.
3. Deliver the presentation which will last a half hour to 45 minutes.
4. Following each presentation match volunteers with attendees for additional help, to answer questions and encourage practice of what has been taught.
5. Supervise this help session which will last 45 minutes to 1 hour.
6. At the end of each session encourage attendees to participate in Cyber-Seniors virtual sessions and to use the telephone tech support as needed.
7. At the end of each session distribute satisfaction surveys to be completed by participants.
8. Prepare and send report to Cyber-Seniors.
Note: Additional work (such as delivery of flyers, visiting local high schools to recruit volunteers and online technology assistance) may be available for interested candidates.
PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Current, general knowledge of software programs, apps and technology is required.
- Proficient in both reading and speaking English.
- Bachelor’s degree or College diploma an asset.
- Prior teaching experience an asset.
- Proficiency in languages other than English as asset.
Salary:
$25/hour, plus reimbursement of travel expenses
Location:
Workshops to be done at Gold Country Senior Services (Grass Valley) Mondays at 1:30pm and at ACC Senior Services (Sacramento) Fridays at 10am.
