Position Overview
The Cost Accounting Manager will oversee the cost accounting function within the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting and compliance with relevant standards. This role is critical in supporting the financial decision-making process, maintaining costing integrity, and optimizing financial performance across various projects, particularly within the Manufacturing and Aerospace sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage the cost accounting function, including cost rollups, variance analysis, and month-end close processes.
- Develop and maintain cost accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and other relevant standards.
- Analyze project costs, including labor, overhead, and raw materials, to provide accurate budgeting and forecasting.
- Collaborate with project managers to ensure accurate project costing and financial reporting.
- Prepare and present financial reports to senior management, highlighting profitability and cost drivers.
- Conduct audits of costing processes and ensure integrity of cost data across systems such as MRP and ERP.
- Assist in government contract negotiations, ensuring compliance with DoD and NASA regulations.
- Support mergers and acquisitions by providing detailed cost analyses and integration support.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or CMA preferred
- 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably in the manufacturing or aerospace sectors.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and government contracting regulations.
- Proficient in cost accounting methodologies, including standard costing and CAS compliance.
- Experience with project accounting, budgeting, and financial forecasting.
- Advanced skills in Excel and familiarity with MRP/ERP systems.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
