Responsibilities
- Examine fires in homes, businesses, and industries that may involve life safety or fire protection systems, such as wet, dry, and pre-action water-based fire sprinkler systems; special hazard fire suppression systems (gaseous, chemical, and foam systems) and fire detection and alarm systems
- Investigate occurrences involving different fire safety systems in the field and conduct forensic engineering and failure/accident analysis.
- Perform post-accident assessments of the fire spread and egress routes.
- Present professionally, cultivate relationships with clients, and advertise yourself to client groups.
- Attend educational programs, read trade journals, build personal networks, and take part in professional associations to keep up your technical and professional expertise.
- College degree or equivalent experience in Construction, Engineering, or Design.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering required;
- Master's degree in Fire Protection Engineering preferred
- P. E. registration or ability to obtain
- IAAI-CFI or CFEI certifications or ability to obtain
- Fire Investigation experience or desire to learn a must
- Knowledge of fire protection systems, building construction and relevant codes
- Experience with fire modeling a plus
- 5 years of fire protection engineering industry experience
- Forensic experience/exposure a plus
