Internal Audit Director

Located in the heart of New Orleans, we are a Research University that has been around since 1834 providing higher education to all.

Position Overview

The Director of Internal Audit is responsible for leading the internal audit function and ensuring that the organization's internal controls, risk management, and governance processes are effective and aligned with strategic objectives. This role involves developing and executing audit programs, assessing compliance with regulations, and providing insights to enhance operational efficiency and mitigate risks.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement the internal audit strategy and audit plans in alignment with organizational goals.
• Lead the internal audit team in conducting comprehensive audits of financial, operational, and compliance processes.
• Assess risk management practices and recommend improvements to enhance the organization's risk profile.
• Ensure compliance with internal audit standards and regulations during audit activities.
• Prepare and present audit findings and recommendations to senior management and the audit committee.
• Monitor the implementation of audit recommendations and follow up on corrective actions taken.
• Conduct training and development programs for the internal audit staff to enhance their skills and knowledge.
• Collaborate with external auditors and regulatory agencies as necessary.
  
  

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; Master's degree or professional certification (e.g., CPA, CIA) preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in internal audit or a related field, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of internal audit standards, risk assessment methodologies, and compliance auditing.
• Proven experience in financial analysis and developing audit programs.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a team effectively in a fast-paced environment.
