Job Summary :
Actively participates in the activities of Quality Assurance and provides input to quality assurance operations. A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of specialized areas plus working knowledge of other related fields. Resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented level position. Provides resolutions to a diverse range of complex problems where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Contributes to the development of the organization's goals and objectives. Failure to obtain results or erroneous judgments / recommendations would normally have serious results and may require substantial expenditure of resources to correct and / or achieve project goals. Networks with senior internal and external personnel in own area of expertise. Requires limited responsibility for making routine contacts on general matters outside of the immediate organization. Works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Determines approach to solutions, plans schedule, and arranges own activities in accomplishing objectives.
Duties & Responsibilities :
Implement quality control and safety plans to ensure compliance with contract specifications and applicable regulations.
Inspect all phases of a variety of goods, services, or operations for conformity to established quality, health and safety, and other operational standards.
Perform ongoing work for compliance with contractual provisions.
Ensure all services listed on the performance requirement summary are performed satisfactorily.
Specify areas to be inspected (scheduled and unscheduled) and how often inspections will be accomplished.
Communicate deficiencies to proper persons and maintain Quality Control files.
Document results of all inspections.
Review and prepare procurement documentation related to quality assurance, quality engineering, and quality control requirements.
Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of processes, procedures, and applications contributing to the overall objective of sustaining an effective Quality Management System.
Perform onsite NCR (Non-Conformance Report) investigations and verifications.
Coordinate and / or conduct audits and surveillances of quality-affecting engineering, procurement, construction, and ancillary project work.
Skills & Work Experience :
Knowledge and application of nuclear codes and standards (e.g., 10 CFR 830 Subpart A, DOE Order 414.1D, ASME NQA-1, ISO 9001, U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Regulatory Guide Series).
Knowledge of the application of ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code for the procurement, fabrication, inspection, testing, and in-service inspection & evaluation of Pressure Vessels and Piping.
Experience participating in and supporting quality assessments, surveillances, audits, and / or Non-Conformance disposition and closure.
Ability to understand and interpret various physical, mechanical, and electrical documents, blueprints, drawings, specifications, and schematics.
Effective communication skills with all levels of personnel across multiple organizations to solve complex problems.
Sufficient application experience to comprehend specified requirements in disciplines that include welding, nondestructive testing, geometric dimensioning, and tolerance.
Knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction practices sufficient to comprehend specified requirements in disciplines that include Commercial Grade Dedication (CGD) and application of the graded approach in an NQA-1 environment.
Three years of experience as a Certified Welding Inspector (AWS-CWI).
Current certification or previous certifications in three or more of the following NDE Level II Inspection (RT, UT, MT, PT, VT), Piping or Pressure Vessel Inspection, Mechanical Inspections.
Ability to obtain a Q level Clearance.
Preferred Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in engineering, quality assurance, industrial systems engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of five (5) years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience as a Quality Assurance Site Representative.
Domestic travel availability.
Work experience as an onsite LANL representative at a vessel construction subcontractor's facility in the Midwest or Northeast.
