As a SQL Server Database Administrator, you will provide essential infrastructure support for all SQL Server applications, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery solutions. This position serves as a temporary backfill for a Senior DBA, filling the gap as the team prepares for a permanent replacement. You will manage complex applications, especially those supporting critical Tier 1 systems within the Bureau of Labs and Cancer Registry, adhering to industry standards while maintaining the stability of these vital systems.

As a SQL Server Database Administrator, you will provide essential infrastructure support for all SQL Server applications, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery solutions. This position serves as a temporary backfill for a Senior DBA, filling the gap as the team prepares for a permanent replacement. You will manage complex applications, especially those supporting critical Tier 1 systems within the Bureau of Labs and Cancer Registry, adhering to industry standards while maintaining the stability of these vital systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce database standards, policies, and procedures, drafting new guidelines as needed.
- Monitor and adjust space allocation across databases, ensuring efficient use of resources in test and development environments.
- Calculate disk space requirements for current and future business needs, modifying DBMS parameters based on capacity changes.
- Configure and perform database integrity checks, ensuring system reliability and performance.
- Install and maintain database management software, patches, and service packs for development and test environments.
- Support clustered database environments, monitoring replication and backup systems.
- Implement strategies to release unused space and repair fragmentation in test and development environments.
- Execute scripts provided by Systems Analysts or Database Architects for creating and modifying database objects (tables, views, indexes, etc.).
- Monitor database backups to ensure recoverability, troubleshooting errors when necessary.
- Monitor scheduled jobs and processes in all environments, participating in troubleshooting efforts.
- Use tools to monitor database environments, identifying and addressing functionality, connectivity, or downtime issues.
- 7 years of experience in database administration, specifically with SQL Server 2016 and upwards.
- Expertise in High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions.
- Experience with Transparent Data Encryption (TDE) within SQL Server.
- 3 years of experience creating, updating, and maintaining systems documentation.
