Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM Guaranteed Hours: TBA Experience: Minimum 1 year of current experience License: ARRT(N) or NMTCB registered or equivalent state license for nuclear medicine technology Certifications: BLS certification, ASCP preferred Must-Have:
- Associate's Degree in Clinical Laboratory Sciences
- Phlebotomy experience is highly preferred
- Prior travel experience is preferred
Responsibilities
- Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies using various radioisotope equipment.
- Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate and administer doses as prescribed by a radiologist.
- Use computers to calculate, measure, and record radiation dosages or radiopharmaceuticals received, used, and disposed.
- Use a camera to detect and map radiopharmaceuticals in patients' bodies, producing photographic or computer images.
- Provide patient assistance and explain test procedures and safety precautions during the tests.
- Administer radiopharmaceuticals or radiation to patients to detect diseases using radioisotope equipment under physician direction.
- Produce computer-generated or film images for interpretation by a physician and process cardiac function studies.
- Follow radiation safety procedures to dispose of radioactive materials and store radiopharmaceuticals safely.
- Adhere to safety standards minimizing radiation exposure to workers and patients while preparing stock radiopharmaceuticals.
- Maintain and calibrate radioisotope and laboratory equipment.
- Gather patient information regarding illness and medical history to guide diagnostic procedures for therapy.
- Measure glandular activity, blood volume, red cell survival, and radioactivity of the patient using scanners, Geiger counters, scintillometers, and other laboratory equipment.
- Train and supervise students or subordinate nuclear medicine technologists.
- Answer phones and relay information as needed in a courteous and professional manner.
Additionally, on-call duties are required one Saturday per month for cardiac needs.
