Job Description

• Float between Medical ICU and Cardiovascular ICU; cardiac experience is essential.
• Care for immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients preferred.
• Handle common procedures such as chest tube insertion, intubation, and emergency sternotomies.
• Provide care for patients with conditions such as AMI, AVR, MVR, respiratory failure, renal failure, IABP, CRRT, Empella, and therapeutic hypothermia.
• Responsible for reading and interpreting EKG strips and operating ventilators.
• Collaborate with Hospitalist or Intensivist in-house during shifts.
• No nurse aides; charge nurse generally does not take patients, but provides break relief.
• Rotate weekends with core staff and float to other facilities as needed, with travelers floating first.
• Participate in bedside reporting at shift start.
• Undergo unit-specific orientation with a preceptor for 1 to 2 days.
• Ensure completion of non-billable modules before the start; modules typically take 3-4 hours to complete.
• Wear navy scrubs with optional navy scrub jackets. Undershirts must be navy, white, or black.
• Engage in self-scheduling with manager-balanced finalization; schedules released 4 weeks in advance.
• Access schedules from home for extra shifts and trade opportunities.
• No recovering of fresh post-operative patients.
• Comply with hospital policy on cancellations, allowing for up to 3 cancellations per contract.
• Utilize Cerner for charting.
• Apprentice-level or graduate-level education (BSN not required).
  
  

Note: This role excludes candidates employed full time, part-time, or PRN by related facilities within the past year, except for PRN employment through outside firms. Completion of a specified exam within 24-48 hours of acceptance is required, with two attempts permitted if necessary.
