Job Description
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in emergency, acute care, outpatient, and swing bed care settings
- Exhibit initiative, flexibility, and responsibility reflecting professional expectations with minimal supervision
- Safely, rapidly, and accurately triage patients upon entry to the emergency care department
- Determine priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs and factors influencing patient flow
- Communicate with the attending provider about changes in patient's status, symptoms, and diagnostic studies
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment response
- Evaluate outcomes and adjust nursing care processes to ensure optimal patient care
- Complete orientation packet and checklist as assigned and cross-train on new equipment
- Perform comprehensive assessments on all patients and reassessments per policy, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients
- Use triage processes to ensure timely and appropriate care, accurately assigning triage categories
- Assess and reassess pain, utilizing appropriate management techniques and educating patients and families on pain management
- Document pain assessments and reassessments consistently in the electronic health record (EHR)
- Monitor hemodynamic status and interpret results accurately
- Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and treat appropriately
- Perform point-of-care testing per clinical laboratory and patient care unit policies and procedures, interpreting results and taking appropriate action
- Maintain current medication knowledge and administer correctly, following the seven medication rights to minimize errors
- Prepare, hang, monitor, and discontinue IV fluids using aseptic technique
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation, including patient histories, conditions, treatments, and assessments
- Perform patient care to optimize safety and reduce healthcare errors, following provider orders consistently
- Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality
- Treat patients and families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs
- Act as a liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development principles to provide age-appropriate care
- Interact professionally with patients and families, involving them in care planning
- Perform related duties as assigned by management
- Check hospital email and account throughout the workday
- Complete mandatory education within the specified timeframe
- Maintain regulatory requirements and report to work on time
- Wear identification while on duty, using the computerized punch time system correctly

- Attend annual reviews and department in-services as scheduled
