Job Description
- Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages, requiring professional knowledge.
- Work independently in completing assignments based on provider orders, standards of care, nursing policies, and procedures.
- Maintain accountability for all actions taken and consult with the appropriate manager or supervisor in difficult situations.
- React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergent situations.
- Promote excellence in care by implementing safe, therapeutic, and efficient practices using appropriate infection control measures.
- Set priorities for patient care based on acuity and patient preferences, anticipating potential problems.
- Adapt to changes in the area by setting priorities for emergencies and changes in patient status.
- Initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy.
- Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.
- Coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members.
- Provide patient education, explaining tests, procedures, and disease processes.
- Facilitate patient healing by providing individualized, goal-oriented nursing care.
- Evaluate patient's progress towards goals, revising care plans as needed.
- Assure confidentiality of patient information.
- Obtain, interpret, and apply age-related patient information in terms of cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Document assessment findings that include body systems review, lab results, diagnostic findings, and interdisciplinary input.
- Recognize and distinguish between normal and abnormal assessments.
- Develop and contribute to a plan of nursing action based on existing and potential patient problems.
- Transcribe and note physician orders accurately, initiating patient care plans using patient care standards.
- Conduct educational programs and provide discharge patient information as needed.
- Communicate with staff, patients, and healthcare team members in a supportive, constructive, and positive manner.
- Participate in departmental staff meetings and contribute to unit goal setting.
- Complete annual competencies, evaluation materials, and maintain certifications and licensures.
