Job Description
- The unit consists of 25 total beds, 4 of which are SCU, providing ICU/stepdown level care.
- Nurse/Patient Ratios: Day shifts - Medical-Surgical 1:3-4, ICU 1:1-1:2 for vented patients, 1:3 with drips.
- Typical Patients include cases such as COPD, CHF, Sepsis, GI and urological surgeries, CBI, orthopedic surgery, SBO, DKA, NSTEMI, Detox, and pyelonephritis. Pediatric cases are infrequent.
- Manageable types of drips include propofol, levo, precedex, cardizem, nitro, amio, and insulin.
- A house supervisor and charge nurse present 24/7; charge nurse takes assignments between 3 PM - 7 AM.
- Nurse aides are available with a ratio of 3-4 during the day, and 2 during the night.
- Hospitalists cover from clinics, complementing primary care, along with on-demand critical care intensivist and nurse.
- Respiratory therapists assigned 24/7 to manage vents and setup bipap.
- ICU nurses read telemetry strips; special care nurse also monitors and reads strips.
- Rotating requirement of two out of four weekends and potential holiday assignment for travelers.
- Dress code includes any solid color scrubs.
- One day of unit-specific orientation, followed by observation and support, transitioning to independent duty by the second day.
- Charting is done using the EPIC system.
- Trauma Level: Critical Access Hospital (CAH)
- All shifts and schedules are block-scheduled, with no self-scheduling.
