Job Description
- 50-mile radius rule applies.
- Please specify if the specialty ICU, such as MICU, SICU, TICU, CVICU, etc., is necessary.
- This unit has 4 beds, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1 to 2.
- Common diagnoses include respiratory failure, atrial fibrillation with RVR, suicide, detoxification, some med-surg overflow, and occasional pediatric care.
- No PCU/intermediate care is available in the building.
- RNs are required to titrate medications such as propofol, cardizem, insulin, precedex, levo, etc.
- The unit has a house supervisor; there is no charge nurse for this unit.
- A clinical assistant is present most days, 24 hours a day, depending on census.
- Hospitalists or intensivists are in-house but not for certain practices.
- Respiratory Therapists are available 24/7 and cover all areas in the ICU.
- The unit has all necessary RT equipment, including ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, etc.
- RNs are responsible for monitoring and reading strips for med-surg and ICU house-wide.
- Tele monitors are utilized throughout the unit, with RNs reading their own strips.
- Flexible scheduling is available, with 12-hour shifts from 6:45 to 7:15.
- Extra shifts may be available, and block scheduling preferences can be discussed with the manager.
- Weekend shifts are required every other week, with rotations on holiday requirements with regular staff.
- There is no call or standby requirement.
- RNs may float to medsurg if the census is low, typically not taking a full team of patients.
- The dress code permits any scrub color except camouflage or orange.
- New staff will undergo a unit-specific orientation, including a review with a manager, a tour, introductions, discussion of policies, and training from the education department, pharmacy, and lab.
- 3-5 days of training on the unit will be provided.
- The charting system used is EPIC.
- A BSN is not required for this position.
- The facility is a trauma level care setting in the acute nursing division.
- Orientation hours are not provided.
