Job Description
- Provide direct and indirect patient care in critical care and medical-surgical settings.
- Communicate with physicians regarding changes in patient clinical condition, including hemodynamic monitoring, diagnostic results, and symptoms.
- Respond quickly and accurately to changes in patient condition or treatment responses.
- Perform general nursing duties across departments with adequate supervision.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medications and administer them correctly based on patient age and clinical condition.
- Follow the five medication rights to reduce potential for errors.
- Monitor and interpret the hemodynamic status of patients accurately.
- Perform head-to-toe assessments on all patients and conduct reassessments as needed per policy.
- Document patient care appropriately and report changes in condition thoroughly and promptly.
- Utilize current policies and procedures, staying updated on evidence-based practices.
- Focus on patient safety; submit incident reports and communicate with management to improve outcomes.
- Formulate, revise, and evaluate individualized patient care plans daily.
- Develop and assess teaching plans; include family in education as appropriate.
- Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac monitoring, identify dysrhythmias, and treat according to ACLS protocol.
- Conduct hourly patient rounds and document findings.
- Coordinate and supervise patient care as necessary, assigning tasks to LPNs in the unit.
- Ensure that every patient on the unit receives an RN assessment every shift.
- Communicate effectively with charge nurses, colleagues, and physicians.
- Consult other departments for an interdisciplinary patient care approach.
- Provide care suited to the disease condition and patient age.
- Charge for supplies and procedures promptly and thoroughly.
- Assist physicians with procedures efficiently.
- Exhibit flexibility, organization, and effectiveness under stressful situations.
- Treat patients and their families with respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs. Act as a liaison among administration, patients, physicians, and healthcare providers.
- Must-have a valid nursing license in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Note:** Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system used is Cerner, and holiday coverage is required.
