Description
The unit has 39 beds and involves caring for complex ICU patients ranging from surgical, medical, cardiac, neurological, and trauma cases.
Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac catheterization, post-surgical, and multiple system traumas.
Cardiac experience is preferred but not required, including experience with CABG/TAVR 24 to 48 hours post-op.
Patient ratios are acuity-dependent and may range from 1:1, 1:2, to 1:3.
Experience with IV medications, hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry required.
The role requires strong teamwork, critical thinking, and comfort in a fast-paced setting with critical patients.
Experience With Impella, IABP, And CRRT Is Strongly Preferred.
Support on the unit includes 1-2 nurse aides per unit, mobility float aide, peripheral blood draw phlebotomy, and a resource nurse staffing-dependent.
The charge nurse oversees all ICU operations.
Two Intensivists are present on nights, with an additional Advanced Practice Provider available.
The charting system used is Epic.
Floating is not common unless overstaffed.
Staff may float to any adult floor, including Medical-Surgical or Telemetry units, with a 1:4 patient ratio.
Hospital orientation includes a 12-hour shift and an 8-hour shift.
Weekend rotation is every other weekend.
No holiday time-off requests will be entertained.
No time-off requests allowed during specific events like the annual bike rally in August.
Navy-colored scrubs are required.
