Job Description :
Perform a variety of nursing care procedures requiring professional knowledge and consideration of specific patient conditions and treatments.- Work independently and in consultation with a manager or supervisor in difficult situations requiring additional input.- Provide support to individuals of all ages and their families during antepartum, postpartum, labor stages, newborn baby care, and care for post-surgical C-section patients.- Respond to emergencies including trauma and fetal distress C-sections.- React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in an emergency environment.- Maintain accountability for all actions taken and proper delegation and supervision of CNAs, LPNs, Ward Clerks, and PCE on unit during shift.- Promote excellent patient care and anticipate potential problems by setting priorities for emergencies, changes in patient status, and unusual occurrences.- Manage and document nursing procedures consistent with departmental policy and demonstrate knowledge of equipment use.- Accurately administer age-specific medications and therapeutics and coordinate patient care activities with physicians and other healthcare team members.- Facilitate healing by providing nursing care that is individualized, goal-oriented, and based on scientific principles and the nursing process.- Explain tests, procedures, and disease processes to patients and significant others.- Monitor patient progress or lack thereof towards goals and direct new goal-setting and implementing revised patient care plans as directed by reassessment.- Provide discharge patient information and participate in in-services and educational programs.- Communicate constructively and positively with staff, patients, significant others, and other healthcare team members.- Participate in departmental staff meetings and unit goal-setting; assist in the orientation of new staff, travelers, and students.- Perform as a Contact RN leading assigned RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, and accomplish all assigned patient care and area support activities during the shift.
