- Coordinate various nursing care procedures for residents of different ages, considering specific resident conditions and treatments.
- Participate in patient and family education and provide leadership by working collaboratively with ancillary nursing and healthcare team members.
- Adhere to physician orders, standards of care, and nursing policies and procedures.
- Make clinical decisions independently during shifts, maintaining accountability for all actions. Consult with the appropriate manager/supervisor when needed.
- Maintain composure and make sound nursing judgments in emergency situations.
- Properly delegate and supervise CNA/Tech, LPN, and/or Ward Clerk duties during the shift.
- Implement safe, therapeutic, and efficient care for patients and residents with multisystem diseases and/or treatment complications, using appropriate infection control measures.
- Set patient care priorities based on acuity and/or patient preference; anticipate potential problems.
- Adapt to changes by setting priorities for emergencies, changes in status, and unusual occurrences.
- Initiate, manage, and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policy.
- Demonstrate knowledge of equipment use and accurately administer age-specific medications and therapeutics.
- Carry out the medical and nursing care plan and coordinate resident care activities with healthcare team members.
- Identify risks to residents and take action to reduce, correct, or prevent them.

- Assign staff to productive tasks and float to other units as needed.
- Perform as Contact RN, leading assigned personnel and accomplishing all resident care and support activities during the shift.
- Develop and contribute to nursing action plans based on existing and potential resident problems.
- Accurately transcribe and note physician orders.
- Initiate care plans using resident care standards and document reassessments.
- Attend and participate in departmental staff meetings and contribute to unit goal setting.
