- Ability to care for pediatric/adolescent patients on occasion
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR)
- Provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients based on the application of scientific nursing principles.
- Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Prepare and administer medications orally, subcutaneously, and through an IV, and record prescribed medications.
- Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments following policy.
- Educate patients on surgical procedures.
- Record patients' medical information and vital signs.
- Monitor and adjust specialized equipment used on patients, interpreting and recording electronic displays.
- Initiate corrective action whenever the patient displays adverse symptomatology.
- Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgery patients.
- Initiate patient education plans, as prescribed by a physician, teaching patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury.
- Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.
- Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examination and treatment.
- Respond to life-saving situations based on nursing standards and protocol.
- Participate in discharge planning.
- Utilize time management skills.
- Record all care information concisely, accurately, and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
- Perform other position-related duties as assigned, depending on assignment setting.
