Job Description
- Work on a medical surgical unit with 52 private beds, using the Allscripts - Sunrise charting system.
- Maintain patient ratios of 1:6-7 for both day and night shifts.
- Serve under a Charge Nurse who takes a full patient assignment, with assistance from a Clinical Assistant.
- Work alongside 4-6 Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) per shift, maintaining CNA to patient ratios of 1:10-12.
- Follow a schedule that includes every-other-weekend shifts within a 6-week period.
- Adhere to a holiday rotation schedule as part of the team.
- Wear navy blue scrubs, with grey for CNAs.
- Utilize remote telemetry monitoring as needed, with separate units responsible for monitoring.
- Administer and manage medications such as Heparin, Lasix, PCAs with MSO4, and possibly Ativan drips. No cardiac or insulin drips required.
- Work with Bipap, Cpap, and High Flow but not continuous ventilation.
- Collaborate with hospitalists and intensivists available 24/7, as well as in-house residents.
- Benefit from a 24/7 IV team and PICC team; nurses assess but do not start IVs.
- Engage in patient care with RT and pharmacy support available around the clock.
- Participate in shifts from 0645-1915 or 1845-0715 and submit up to 6 requests off per 6-week schedule.
- Potentially float to other MedSurg or MedSurg/Oncology units, but mainly will handle MedSurg overflow.
- Receive orientation consisting of general hospital orientation followed by two full shifts on the unit.
- Manage care for patients presenting post-op ortho, basic neuro surgeries, general post-ops, infections, medical dx such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, and hemodialysis.
- Handle COVID testing by retaining patients on the unit unless longer waiting times necessitate a transfer to the COVID unit.
