Certifications: BLS required; ACLS and NIH Stroke Education preferred

Must-Have: IV experience; knowledge of EPIC system preferred

Job Description

• Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:6 or less on both days and nights; 1:8 rarely on nights depending on acuity/staffing.
• Common patient diagnoses include pneumonia, rehab, UTI, general post-op, pain control, aspiration, fractures, dementia, and falls; rare pediatric cases.
• RNs may occasionally assist in the ER as backup.
• Rare requirement to titrate drips, with basic knowledge needed; most are transferred to larger facilities. Cardizem is the most commonly used drip when needed. ER nurse is more familiar with starting them and will assist as needed.
• There is a Charge Nurse or House Supervisor on each shift, who typically does not take an assignment and may cover the ER.
• One nurse aide/patient care tech per 8-hour shift handles duties including vitals, ambulation, and ADLs.
• Respiratory therapy equipment is not available; RNs will conduct breathing treatments and education.
• RNs must read and interpret their own cardiac strips; Phillips brand equipment used.
• Self-scheduling available for staff, with contract staff schedules arranged around existing plans.
• Weekend requirement is typically every other weekend for contracted staff.
• Holiday rotations are on/off.
• No call or standby requirement.
• No floating requirements.
• Dress code includes any color or pattern of scrubs, which are not provided.
• One full 12-hour shift orientation with a preceptor.
• Charting system: Epic Systems Corporation - EpicCare Inpatient EHR Suite.
