Must-Have
- Experience with wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, surgical site care, PCA pumps, dressing changes, and foley procedures as required per unit assignment.
- Ability to assess, prioritize, communicate, and document effectively.
- Proficiency in handling equipment such as IV pumps (Plum 360), medication dispensing systems (Omnicell), and patient monitors (Spacelabs).
- First-time travelers must have at least 18 months of MedSurg experience using EPIC or Cerner.
- Staff must be absent for at least 6 months before returning as a traveler, calculated from the last shift worked to the start date.
- Initial assignment on a home unit will be made on the first day of orientation.
- 6 North Trauma Surgical: General and vascular surgery patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6.
- 5 South Neuroscience: CVA, TBI, seizure, spinal fusion, and post-trauma patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6.
- 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: Includes palliative care, ETOH withdrawal, MS/Oncology patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:6.
- 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: COPD, pneumonia, renal failure, and sepsis patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6.
- 3 South Orthopedics: Orthopedic and spine patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5; 1:6 if MedSurg.
- 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: Urology, ENT, ortho patients, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:5-6.
- Telemetry monitoring is performed by telemetry techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm readings every 4 hours.
- Orientation includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit for new or returning travelers absent for 1 years.
- Weekend rotation required every other or four weekend days per month.
- Holiday expectations include one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, subject to availability and non-guarantee of specific dates.
- Schedule cycle: 4-week period utilizing a scheduling tool; no self-scheduling.
- Support available from CNAs, a charge nurse, phlebotomy, an IV/VAT team, and hospitalist availability.
