Job Title : Pharmacy Technician Job Specialty : Pharmacy Job Duration : 13 weeks Shift : Variable 8-hour shift working between 6 : 30 am - 11 : 30 pm with variable weekend rotation and night availability as needed Guaranteed Hours : 40 hours per week Experience : Not specified License : Reg Pharmacy Technician - TX State Board of Pharmacy or Pharmacy Intern State Board of Pharmacy Certifications : Pharmacy Technician Certificate, IV Certification Must-Have : IV Certification, ability to work during assigned variable shifts and weekends as needed Job Description : - Assist pharmacists in the preparation, repackaging, compounding, filling, and delivery of medications. - Perform tasks in a manner appropriate for patients of all ages, from 0 to adult. - Assist in procurement, record-keeping, storage, and distribution of controlled substances. - Ensure appropriateness of medication doses by correctly entering patient diagnosis, weight, allergies, and body surface area into the computer system. - Follow aseptic techniques and infection control procedures when preparing sterile products. - Complete annual recertification, scoring at least 90% on aseptic technique / infection control skills and written exam as observed by a qualified professional. - Ensure that all technicians and pharmacists practice aseptic techniques and infection control. - Verify the accuracy of medications as confirmed by pharmacists, ensuring no dispensing errors. - Demonstrate competence in batch, medication, and prescription order entry. - Work with Pharmacy Support Services to maintain adequate stock of medications and supplies following established replacement procedures. - Follow procedures for non-formulary medications. - Obtain pharmacist initial / final checks and assign dilution and expiration dating labels to medications per departmental standards. - Operate equipment used in the preparation of sterile products. - Possess strong math, reading, and communication skills. - Have knowledge of current hospital and departmental standards for handling pharmaceuticals.
