Sterile Processing Technician Job Description
Summary:
A Sterile Processing Technician plays a critical role in maintaining a contaminant-free environment by ensuring the proper sterilization, packaging, and distribution of medical instruments. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform all phases within Central Sterile and support all services, including robotics.
- Utilize washers and autoclaves like Steris and Sterrad for sterilization purposes.
- Track and report on instrument usage and maintenance through SynergyTrak.
- Disassemble, clean, sterilize, reassemble, and package sterile supplies according to specifications and manufacturer instructions.
- Follow department protocols for equipment use, including the operation of washers, sterilizers, ultrasonic machines, steam and ethylene oxide sterilizers, and heat sealers.
- Adhere to instrument count sheets for surgical sets and case carts.
- Retrieve used trays, instruments, and equipment from various surgical and clinical areas for decontamination.
- Examine instruments and equipment for cleanliness, proper assembly, and functionality.
- Identify and report malfunctioning items, and notify supervisor or biomedical engineer promptly.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Sterile Processing Technician required.
- Certifications: Sterile processing certification (CRCST or CSPD) required. CIS preferred.
- Ability to lift/carry 25 pounds, with manual dexterity, including standing, bending, lifting, and reaching for extended periods of time.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
