The Senior Research Librarian is responsible for providing comprehensive reference, research, and reader services to attorneys and staff while managing and overseeing the implementation of interlibrary loan procedures. This role also includes overseeing the library’s acquisition, cataloging, circulation, and routing systems to ensure seamless access to all resources. The Senior Research Librarian is expected to deliver exceptional service in a fast-paced environment that values individual productivity and cost-effectiveness.
Most Important Responsibilities:
- Stay up to date on emerging products, technologies, and standards in technical services and library technology.
- Develop and maintain documentation, and train staff on automated systems, new technologies, and t4echnical service procedures.
- Catalog and track the library’s collection, ensuring records are accurate and current.
- Manage access to electronic resources, including overseeing password management.
- Optimize the use of available resources to provide reliable service and access to the latest updates.
- Work with the Senior Library Services Manager to ensure timely payment of department invoices.
- Develop and implement customized procedures and reports as needed.
- Serve as the library applications and online resources.
- Collaborate with Senior Library Services Manager to design and implement knowledge management processes to better serve the firm’s needs.
- Provide expert legal and non-legal reference and research services by conducting searches in both internal and external collections, utilizing computerized search tools, interlibrary loans, and document retrieval.
- Ensure the timely and accurate delivery of information resources to attorneys and clients.
- Advise on acquisitions to enhance and maintain the library’s resources and services.
- Participate in training initiatives for attorneys and staff, focusing on library and knowledge management best practices.
- Contribute to the creation and maintenance of library policies and procedures.
What you can bring to the table to impact this role, team, and organization:
- Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent industry experience.
- 2 years of research experience in a law firm or corporate library setting.
- Proficiency in advanced research tools such as LexisAI, Bloomberg Law, PacerPro, VitalLaw, Lexis Search Advantage, Lex Machina, Intelligize, Capital IQ, PACER, efileMA, and others.
- Experience managing integrated library systems and overseeing all technical services functions.
- Familiarity with Knowledge Management methods and practices.
