Position : Mental Health Counselor, Brooklyn Lab School
Cypress Hills Local Development Corporation has an opening for one ( 1 ) full-time Mental Health Counselor at the Franklin K. Lane Campus with Brooklyn Lab School.
Principal Duties :
- Recruit, interview, and conduct intake assessments of program participants.
- Establish a rapport with participants : assist with the development of educational and career goals. Support in the formation of future plans.
- Provide interpersonal group and individual counseling to a cohort of 9-12th grade students
- Facilitate group counseling / workshops on topics ranging from academics, attendance, socio-emotional learning, career development, life skills and student enrichment
- Foster collaborative relationships with BLS administration and counseling team to collaborate on ways to best meet the needs of the caseload
- Work alongside the parent coordinator to bring mental health workshops to parents to deliver a holistic approach to overcoming barriers
- Monitor and support with attendance and academic progress of students on the caseload. Conduct home visits as needed
- Assist with the development, facilitation, promotion of activities including, but not limited to, student celebrations, family nights, etc.
- Coordinate details of program events including transportation, refreshments, admissions, and any additional aspects of given events / programs.
- Actively participate in and manage systems to track both academic and personal goals to ensure positive outcomes for program participants upon graduation.
- Use effective and secure practices in data collection and management to contribute to accurate reporting and protect the confidentiality of staff and participant's information.
- Provide necessary referrals to agency and community resources
- Conduct outreach to inform and educate neighborhood residents on CHLDC programs and services to optimize awareness within the community
- Participate in ongoing professional development
- Demonstrate a commitment to school reform work, leadership development, community building, and community organizing as strategies for social change.
- Represent program to funders; meet all reporting requirements for funding sources
- Attend all required division and agency meetings
- Other duties as requested

65,000 dependent upon experience. We also offer a very competitive benefits package.
